The Legal Division of the Authority implements various activities in terms of the National Child Protection Authority Act No.50 of 1998 including taking measures to ensure the protection of the rights of victimized children. Power has been vested to the Authority by the following acts in addition to the National Child Protection Authority Act:Tsunami (Special Provisions) Act No.16 of 2006 and the Domestic Violence Prevention Act No.34 of 2005.
 
  1.   Providing legal advice and support in the victims of child abuse, tsunami affected children, child victims of Domestic Violence and Coordinating legal support in child labour activities.

    • ► Appearance in labour tribunals

  2. Awareness-raising through the dissemination of knowledge and skills on Child Rights and Child-related legislation, issues on compulsory education, etc

      • ♦ Monitoring and Training programmes for Child Care Workers in Government Receiving homes
      • ♦ Annual monitoring and Training programmes for Child Care Workers in Child development centres
      • ♦ Annual monitoring and Training programmes for Child Care Workers in Daycare centres

    • Child care institutes for child offenders

      • ♦ Conducting training programmes and monitoring sessions in Remand homes
      • ♦ Conducting training programmes and monitoring sessions in Certified schools (12-16 years)
      • ♦ Conducting training programmes and monitoring sessions in Youthful offenders training schools (16-21 years)

    • Conducting training programmes for Police officers
    • Educational institutes​

      • ♦ Annual monitoring of School child protection committees (SCPC)
