According to 14th sentence of National Child Protection Authority Act no.50 of 1998, psychosocial unit stands for formulation and the development of psychosocial well-being of children.

  1.  Giving psychosocial support and advises.

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Psychosocial guidance, advises, necessary intervention and coordination for children are given directly through 1929 child helpline, District psychosocial officer, District child protection officer, Divisional child protection officers.  
    •  
  2.  Conducting awareness programs, seminars and projects.

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Conducting awareness programs for government officers about national guidelines for child day care centers in Sri Lanka.
    • ♦ Mental health and psychosocial assistance.
    • ♦ Conducting the program named “Diriya” for children who are abused, children who are at extremes and children who are at a risk.
    • ♦ The child protection project named “Siyapath Surakum” conducted in coastal areas in Sri Lanka.
    • ♦ Awareness programs on positive disciplines for primary school teachers.
    • ♦ Psychosocial training programs for school counselors.
    • ♦ Conducting awareness programs in schools.
    • ♦ Conducting special awareness programs on psychosocial management for employees.
    • ♦ Conducting training programs and annual monitoring for staff and children in child development centers.
    • ♦ Conducting training programs for staff and children in children’s detention homes.
    • ♦ Conducting training programs for staff and children in certified schools.
    • ♦ Psychosocial management for detention homes, certified schools and child development centers.

  3.  Providing Counseling.

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Asking for mental assessments of a clinical psychologist, if it is needed.
    • ♦ Conducting counseling programs for children for children who are abused, who can be abused, who are at a risk and who are having mental illnesses and mental problems.
    • ♦ Giving counseling for parents and guardians of children for their psychosocial well-being.

  4.  Prepare for video evidence recording(VER)

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Prepare children who are abused, for video recordings.
    • ♦ Participating for observation when video evidences are recorded and sealed.

  5.  Inspecting 1929 child helpline service and psychosocial assistance service for direct complaints.

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Referring, coordinating, listening and linking complaints to District psychosocial officer, District child protection officer and to Divisional child protection officers and follow up them.
    • ♦ Referring children to various organizations, services and to officers and giving advises, guidance and doing follow ups for their well-being.
    • ♦ Monitoring and supervising on referred cases.

  6.  Develop curriculums, national guidelines, develop hand books and handouts (For psychosocial well-being and to prevent child abuse).

  7.  Resource Contribution.

     

     

     

     

     

    • ♦ Contributing necessary recourses to prevent from child abuse, children’s mental health, children’s psychosocial development, child development and to all subjects related to psychosocial management.
